This letterpress print is based on JB Blunk’s 1970 painting Black Rising Moon. The original acrylic on paper work emerged alongside one of Blunk’s sculptures, with the marks and textures of a chainsaw informing the composition and surface of the painting.

Printed in an edition of 40 by Aesthetic Union in San Francisco on Gmund Heidi 330gsm paper, the print is rendered in deep charcoal matte ink on a warm cream stock, emphasizing the physicality and restraint of the original work.
